The Creative Assembly is revisiting their strategy game Total War: Shogun 2. Today they revealed Rise of the Samurai, a new campaign that will be available for download in September.
"Set 400 years before the Sengoku period depicted in Shogun 2, Rise of the Samurai pits you as the leader of one of six playable clans from the Taira, Minamoto and Fujiwara families," reads the announcement from Creative Assembly. "This conflict, the Gempei War, culminated in the first Shogun’s rise to power, and the consolidation of the Samurai as the ruling class."
The Gempei War campaign can be played in single-player or multiplayer modes. The six clans introduced each have unique traits and units. Samurai adds sixteen land and ten naval units for you to command.
There are a number of new special units to choose from as well. The four new hero units include the Tetsubo Warrior Monk and Onna Bushi. Four new agent units, including the shrewd Junsatsushi Inspectors and seductive Shirabyoshi, are also introduced in Samurai. Each agent has its own unique skill tree.
Rise of the Samurai will be accompanied by a new patch. Creative Assembly promises that the patch will contain "a huge number of fixes and feature upgrades" for both single-player and online play. More details will be revealed in the weeks ahead.
No price was mentione for Samurai. If it were free, though, you know damn well they'd shout that at the top of their lungs. You'll probably have to kick out a few bucks for this new content.
