For North American gamers, NCSoft has announced that their popular Korean MMORPG, Aion, will go free-to-play this spring. The model-change will take place with update 3.0, featuring a new housing system, new content, new mounts and a level-cap increase.

As stated in the press release...
Aion: Ascension’s Truly Free business model gives players access to the entire game, including the two major expansions, 3,000+ quests, 30+ instances, 18 zones, three instanced PvP games, pets, classes and key social features like the auction house, chat, trade, crafting, gathering and forums. And with new content from the 3.0 update, which provide several new gameplay systems that Aion fans have been asking for, Aion: Ascension will be one of the most compelling MMOs on the market.

Gamers will be able to explore all of Atreia without having to worry about monthly subscription fees, or paying a dime to play Aion. The conversion will enable a much larger community and coupled with the powerhouse that is Star Wars: The Old Republic I imagine that World of Warcraft will have some very, very stiff competition and a tough time keeping subscribers by the time spring rolls around.

You can check out a brief listing of some of the new content for the game with the Aion: Ascension fact sheet below. For those of you who don't know, the main draw of the game is in its heavy player-customization features and the ability to fly in the air and partake in aerial combat.
