The next Assassin's Creed game will be arriving on December 5th. Assassin's Creed Pirates is a mobile game set one year after the events of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.

Like AC4, Pirates is centered around buccaneers in the Caribbean. However, you won't be Captain Edward Kenway. Instead, Pirates stars Alonzo Batilla. This young pirate is seeking the treasure of legendary French pirate "La Buse." Along the way, he'll meet famous pirates like Blackbeard and Bellamy.

The plot is connected to the secret war between the Assassins and Templars. It's not clear how, though. Maybe La Buse's treasure is a Piece of Eden? Ubisoft doesn't mention whether Alonzo is an Assassin but I suppose it doesn't matter either way. It doesn't sound like you'll control him outside of his ship so if you've got hidden wrist blades, they're going to stay sheathed. It's not like his ship is going to pounce-assassinate anyone...OR IS IT?

As Batilla, players will battle enemy ships in real-time sea battles. They'll then use their plunder to upgrade their ship. Players will also have to manage their crew of sea dogs and replace any that die from your poor captaining.

Ubisoft Paris is heading up the development for Pirates. They're being assisted by the Ubisoft studio in Craiova, Romania. The dev team built a new engine for this game that allows them to present some impressive visuals. Hopefully the game plays as good as it looks.

Pirates will launch simultaneously on Google Play, the App Store and the Amazon Appstore. It'll be priced at $4.99 or £2.99. Ubisoft previously said that the game will only work on "high-end" smartphones and tablets but haven't elaborated on that.

AC4: Black Flag, meanwhile, is now available across all major consoles and PC. Black Flag allows you to command a pirate ship on the high seas. You can also leave the helm to explore the wilderness and towns of the Caribbean.
