Like the original Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will support online multiplayer. However, the remake's multiplayer has a bit of a twist: you can team up with friends playing the game on a different platform.
"Yes, it will be compatible multi-player cross-platform. We had a Mac, iPad and PC joined into a game together," tweeted Beamdog's Trent Oster. Beamdog, which operates a digital store of the same name, owns BG:EE developer Overhaul Games.
In Baldur's Gate's single-player, players commanded an entire party of adventurers in real-time combat. Multiplayer allowed each player was able to focus on controlling one character. The content of the campaign was identical whether you played alone or with other players. It's not clear whether the remake will change up multiplayer at all aside from cross-platform.
The Enhanced Edition of Baldur's Gate features an updated version of the Infinity Engine. It also introduces a new quest and party member. Smaller enhancements will vary from platform to platform. For example, the Mac version announced yesterday supports iCloud.
Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition will be released this summer on the PC, iPad, and Mac.
