New update video has been released for the open-world, emergent-style survival game, Don't Starve. Klei Entertainment's 2D game set within a 3D environment is a unique take on the way the game is presented. The video itself was released to help promote the game's latest update which will arrive this Tuesday.

Don't Starve is a game that lives up to its name perfectly. It's an artistically ambitious title that simply requires gamers to not starve. Build a fortress. Fend of bad beasties, make friends with animals, kill animals, harvest, invent, control, build and experiment. If living in an alternate reality with some spiffy gimmicks sounds like fun to you, then just stick around for the video below.

I'm loving games like this. I can't wait until we get more original titles that expand on this concept in various genres, art-styles and themes. Could you imagine trying to survive in a sort of BioShock: Infinite setting? That would be epic. Oh, or how about trying to survive during an alien invasion like Halo? Where even if you build a house a giant 14-foot tall armored alien comes a knockin' down the door with a shoulder charge.

Anyway, we're a long, long, long way off from any of the above ideas coming into fruition. For now we have cool little indie titles like Don't Starve and the latest update arrives this Tuesday. You can pre-purchase the game right now from Steam at 20% off the original price.

The full, completed version of Don't Starve is expected to release this April. For more information feel free to visit the official Steam page.
