More and more gaming companies are dipping their toes into the free-to-play market. It seems Valve is exploring that payment model as well for an upcoming game.

"Yes," was Doug Lombardi's answer to Barre De Vie when asked if the company had its own F2P projects underway.

Lombardi didn't say what that F2P project was, but Barre de Vie speculates that it might be Dota 2. Seems logical. The main competition that the Defense of the Ancients-inspired strategy RPG will face is League of Legends, which is free-to-play with microtransactions.

Whatever their F2P game is, Valve will be able to use Steam as its launch pad. Earlier this week the digital games service began offering F2P games.
