Square Enix will be re-releasing another Final Fantasy game soon. The latest issue of Japanese gaming mag Jump has revealed that Final Fantasy III will be coming to the PSP in September.

FF3, which debuted on the SNES in 1990, was remade for the DS in 2006. In recent years, Square Enix has also released the game on iOS and Android devices. The scan of the latest issue of Jump (via NeoGAF) shows that the PSP version will have the new 3D visuals seen in those other remakes.

You might think you played this game before on the SNES but if you didn't live in Japan, you probably didn't. The North American SNES game Final Fantasy III was actually Final Fantasy VI. Square didn't release all the FF games in North America back then so they used a different numbering system for this territory so as not to confuse us - even though it's all very confusing now.

A Japanese release doesn't guarantee that we'll get FF3 here in the West. Still, Square Enix has been pretty good about making all of their FF remakes global, even if it takes some time. A Western PSP release for FF3 doesn't seem like a pipe dream.
