The Settlers developer Blue Byte Software is developing a new strategy game. It's a free-to-play effort called Castles Empire that requires no download to play.

Castles Empire tasks players with building an empire. According to the game's website (via Blue), players can construct over 40 types of buildings in their domain. There are nine unique military units to use in guarding the empire or conquering new territory. Exploration and trade are also key to success.

The extent of the Castles's multiplayer wasn't clear. However, the game does include various social features. You'll be able to chat with friend in-game and also form guilds with them.

In addition to all that information, Castles' website also has screenshots (below) and a sign-up form for a closed beta. Participating in the beta will earn you an "limited edition item" when the game goes live.
