NCsoft made a surprise announcement at GamesCom 2011. They're developing a sci-fi MMO called WildStar and it's already playable by the public.

WildStar is in development at NCsoft subsidiary Carbine Studios. Players control Explorers, Soldiers, Scientists or Settlers and explore a mysterious planet on the frontier of space. The gameplay is said to respond to the individual gamer's playstyle. Your choice of faction, race, class and path will affect the sort of challenges, surprises and mini-quests the game presents you with.

A three-act playable build of the game is available at NCsoft's booth at GamesCom. NCsoft also has a new playable build from Guild Wars 2 on display. The GW2 build features an undead dragon boss, player vs. player combat, character customization and more.

WildStar and Guild Wars 2 showcase the innovation coming from NCsoft’s development studios, paving the way for the next generation of videogames and setting a high bar for the entertainment industry to follow,” said Matt Turetzky, executive vice president of publishing for NCsoft West. “We are focused on delighting players by delivering fun, immersive experiences that rival traditional forms of entertainment through personal expression, best-in-class gameplay mechanics, and social engagement.”

No release window has been announced for WildStar yet. If it's already playable, though, it must not be too far away.
