Blizzard has some big plans in store for Hearthstone apparently. The popular card game will receive some kind of special change ahead of the new “Standard” format they plan on implementing. So what is the big announcement? They didn't even hint at it but some are already speculating that it has to deal with a new card set.
PC Gamer noted that lead designer Ben Brode and senior producer Young Woo will both make an announcement about Hearthstone at the Hearthstone Winter Championship set to take place at the Raleigh Studios in Hollywood, California between March 11th and March 13th. According to the Battle.net website the special announcement will air during the live-stream at 10am PST that morning.
The Winter Championships for Hearthstone will span the likes of the Americas, Europe and the Asia-Pacific regions. The Europe Winter Championship will take place following the events in America, and gamers can look for the PAL region contests to get underway between March 18th and March 20th. The Asia-Pacific Winter Championship will then follow on March 24th and run through the weekend on March 26th.
According to the site Blizzard is already teaching gamers how to host a spectator viewing party so fans can gather their friends and watch the Hearthstone tournaments with a group through the live-stream.
But what about this special announcement? Some gamers have already speculated that it may have to deal with a special new set of cards they may announce ahead of getting the new “Standard” rolled out. Of course, introducing new cards while they still haven't completely announced how the old cards being replaced in the “Standard” format seems like it could get a little jumbled. As previously reported by PC Gamer, Blizzard has plans on excising 150 cards out of the deck during spring rotation. Basically all of the cards that were used in the Curse of Naxxramas and the Goblins vs Gnomes sets will be no longer be eligible for use during standard play.
Fear not, for those cards will still be available in the “Wild” format, just not in the “Standard” format. So the real question is: what are the new cards going to be in the “Standard” format?
Presumably Blizzard could end up teasing the new set of cards and what they might be for Hearthstone players to help kick off the spring rotation. It wouldn't be surprising if they unveiled a few cards in the deck here and there to give gamers a taste of what's to come.
Even still, 150 cards getting pulled out of the “Standard” set is a heck of a lot of cards, but fans will definitely have to spend some time learning what the new cards will be if they want to stay on top of their game when playing Hearthstone.
You won't have to wait too long for the special announcement to arrive. Blizzard will be making the announcement this upcoming weekend, so you just have to bite your fingernails for a few days more before the big reveal happens.
