Hearthstone will be receiving a major update later this month. Patch 2.7 will include, among other things, a rule-breaking mode called Tavern Brawl.
Tavern Brawl mode, accessible on the main menu, lets players battle each other with custom rules. The rules will change every week to give players some variety while they wait for the next expansion pack.
"One week might feature preset decks, while another week could have you crafting a brand new Tavern Brawl deck following specific guidelines, while others might offer buffs to specific minion types—who knows!" Blizzard said on the game's website.
Tavern Brawls are free to all players. The only requirement is that you have one Hero leveled to 20. Also, to celebrate the launch of the mode, your first win per week will award you a free classic card pack. This first win bonus will be available through the "first several weeks" of Tavern Brawl.
The Tavern Brawl patch will also bring two more cosmetic Heroes to the game. These Heroes don't feature any new abilities or cards but have their own distinct appearance, sounds and animations. Joining Magni Bronzebeard, the previously announced new hero for the Warrior class, will be a new Mage and Hunter. Blizzard didn't divulge their identities yet but did share two silhouette pictures:
The new Mage looks like Medivh, who has feathered shoulders on his robe just like this silhouette does. The Hunter appears to be an elven female. Maybe it's Alleria Windrunner? I assume they won't use her sister Sylvanas as she's already a Legendary minion in the game.
New Heroes can be purchased for $9.99 apiece. There's no option to buy them for gold. When purchased, you can enable Heroes for specific decks in the Collection Manager. Once Patch 2.7 goes live, you'll be able to do the same for card backs as well. A "favorite" tool will let you assign card backs or heroes for multiple decks at once.
Patch 2.7 is focused entirely on bringing these new features. Blizzard clarified on Twitter that there won't be any balance changes or new cards.
