It looks like Marvel Heroes is continuing to grow, both in terms of the number of players logging on to play the game and in upcoming new content. Gazillion Entertainment has pulled back a little bit of the curtain on future updates, revealing some patch details and the game’s next new playable zone, Asgard.

There was quite a bit of video game news coming out of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, but little of it felt as at home as Marvel Heroes, a game all about taking on the role of legendary comic book heroes. Gazillion Entertainment’s latest free-to-play action MMORPG was on hand, complete with several new details about the games continued growth and success.

For starters, Marvel Heroes is celebrating a big player milestone, surpassing 1.5 million registered users in less than two months on the market. Released on June 4, Gazillion also announced that the game’s first new zone to get thrown into the mix will be Asgard, home of Thor and likely timed to build hype for the upcoming Marvel film, Thor: The Dark World.

“We are honored by this incredible one and a half million registered user milestone and thank everyone who has played Marvel Heroes said Gazillion CEO David Brevik. “As the Marvel Heroes community continues to grow and expand, we’re working hard to make the gameplay experience even better and add new content to the game. This is just the beginning for Marvel Heroes.”

No real details were revealed about the Asgard zone, which is due out sometime this fall, but at least we have plenty of new details on Patch 1.11, the first in a promised series of updates scheduled throughout the rest of the summer.

For starters, the patch will add end game additions to Marvel Heroes, including new modes and player versus player options for those who have completed the game’s current story arc. The patch will also add “eternity splinters,” a new form of currency that will allow players a fresh way to unlock new playable characters within the game.

Speaking of new playable characters, the Human Torch is joining the roster with Patch 1.11, as well as new “Ultimate” items that will enhance your heroes’ special abilities.

As far as Asgard is concerned, Gazillion has stated that the zone will feature all new missions, new PvE and PvP content and “much more.” Gazillion stated that details on that whole “much more” bit will be explained later this year.

For those unfamiliar with the game, Marvel Heroes is a third-person MMORPG currently featuring 21 super heroes to play as, such as Wolverine, Thor and the Hulk. You can swap between any of your unlocked characters on the fly, each with their own power trees, equipment and leveling systems to work through. The characters also offer a bunch of costumes to choose from, pulling from 70 years of comics, animated series and films.
