Gamigo sent out word today that their eccentric, dimensional MMORPG, Otherland, will be heading into its first closed beta testing session later this week. In fact, it's happening just two days from now beginning August 31st and anyone reading this is invited to participate.
Florian Hörpel, Product Manager for Otherland commented in the press release, saying...
"A small, manageable group of accounts will be given access to the servers for the first closed-beta weekend. This is because we want to get a feel for the limits of the systems."
These first few closed-beta tests are usually called “stress” tests. It gradually puts surmountable pressure on servers to see how much load they can handle and how smoothly the gameplay experience can be maintained.
As for the game itself, Otherland is a really awesome concept that tries to break a lot of the standard trends and traditions of the MMO genre. For instance, NPCs move around and carry out daily tasks instead of staying still, being static and generally feeling like three dimensional backdrops. The idea is to help bring the works of Tad Williams to life in extraordinary ways and help players feel as if each experience is unique unto itself.
What's more is that Otherland also features the ability to create your own worlds. Yes, you can create your own worlds. Using a DNA extractor, it's possible to siphon data from objects, creatures and people and re-integrate them into your very own world. What's more is that you can then invite your friends and do stuff...just like Second Life...but presumably without all the porno shops and trollism.
You can sign-up to participate in the Otherland right now by paying a visit to the Official Website.
