Well, it looks like more than a few gamers out there were excited to jump into the Ragnarok Online 2 open beta. So many, in fact, that the servers were unable to handle the stress and brought the beta to a grinding halt. Never fear, though, as Asiasoft Online has announced a new launch date of January 3rd to get everything back on track.

Ragnarok Online 2, the 3D upgrade to Asiasoft's popular free-to-play MMO, was originally scheduled to begin its open beta testing process on Dec. 27. According to a statement from the developer, however, the beta test “met with overwhelming response from players across the globe, resulting in severe congestion of the game servers and websites.”

Rather than deal with severely unsatisfied fans due to a chugging experience, Asiasoft opted instead to pull the plug on the beta for a few days and get their staff plugging away on some fixes. The new start date for the Ragnarok Online 2 beta is set for Jan. 2. Until then, Asiasoft says their staff will be “working hard to resolve all game server issues,” as well as performing occasional stress tests. The schedule for stress tests will be posted shortly on Facebook, and everyone is invited to jump in during those periods in order to help get everything ship shape for the new launch.

If you're interested in hearing from Asiasoft Chairman Sherman Tan directly, he has published a pretty lengthy statement on Facebook explaining the situation and apologizing for the delay.
