This week the players of MMORPG Rift set a Guinness World Record for the most in-game marriages in a day. Over 21,879 player marriages were confirmed between 9am PST on February 14th and 9am PST on February 15th.
"Establishing this record was a monumental achievement for our development team and community of passionate players, and I couldn’t be more proud," said executive producer Scott Hartsman. "Ascended Weddings were a great way to lift the veil on Rift’s new ‘Gatherings’ feature, social experiences that bring players together in new and interesting ways. We look forward to expanding this great new gameplay element in the always-evolving world of Telara."
Guinness World Records will consider the record for inclusion in the next installment of Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition. Regardless of whether it makes it into the book, players will still get a reward. Everyone who got married during the push for the record will receive an in-game title "The Avowed."
In-game weddings were introduced in Patch 1.7, which went live two weeks ago. That update also added a new Chronicle for 1-2 players, a Master Mode dungeon, and a soon-to-be-launched world event called "Carnival of the Damned." Additionally, the patch makes progression smoother for fresh max-level players by beefing up the level 45-50 gear and making it easier to rank up in PvP.
Trion also recently launched Rift Lite. This trial version of the game lets you level a character to 20 without paying a dime.
