The Secret World is about to get its largest update yet as upcoming add-on “Issue #4: Big Trouble in the Big Apple,” prepares to launch later this month.

No official launch date has been announced yet other than “soon” and “this November,” but that means players won’t have more than a couple of weeks to wait before they can get their hands on the fourth content expansion to hit Funcom’s latest MMO.

In a market overrun with for-pay and free-to-play MMOs, The Secret World has little trouble standing out from the crowd. For starters, it’s set in the modern day rather than the typical fantasy adventure setting. Also, rather than battling the standard orcs and goblins, Secret World players instead wage war against nightmare creatures like werewolves, vampires and all sorts of nasties that go bump in the night.

To celebrate the upcoming release of Issue #4, Funcom has launched a pretty meaty breakdown video narrated by Game Director Joel Bylos, giving players a better idea of what they can expect out of the game’s trip to New York.

Issue #4 promises to be the biggest expansion to hit The Secret World since the game’s launch just four months ago. For starters, the DLC will introduce The Manhattan Zone, the game’s very first raid set in the middle of a terrorized Times Square with a big set of challenges for groups of 10 players.

Other additions include the new chainsaw weapon, a new combat mode that lets you select your targets by pointing a reticule with your mouse, updates to the PvP components and The Albion Theater, which allows players to actually put on their own plays using props, lighting, etc.
