Valve will host an anime-oriented sale over the course of the weekend up until Monday, May 2. The sale includes a number of different games based on anime, centered around anime culture, or actual anime movies.
Gamespot did a quick rundown of some of the titles that are discounted from now up until Monday. There are 232 items currently on sale, and some of the anime, anime games and visual novels are highlighted over on a special anime sale page on Steam.
Some of these items include a bunch of Naruto movies, which you can rent or buy, as well as lots of different fighting games, bullet-hell titles, visual novels, beat-'em-ups and mecha games. Bandai Namco's series of Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm games are also all discounted, some are 75% off and as cheap as $7.49.
Looking through the list revealed a ton of games I didn't even know were on Steam, such as the 2D fighting game Yatagarsu Attack on Cataclysm from Nyu Media. It's a cool throwback to the age of ninjas and samurais that populated the fighting market when Capcom and SNK were throwing out blockbusters like The Last Blade and Street Fighter II.
Speaking of SNK... some of their classic titles that have made their way to Steam are also discounted, including The King of Fighters 2002 and The King of Fighters XIII. New-school classics like the popular visual novel Hatoful Boyfriend is up for grabs for only $2.49, with a 75% off discount.
There are some crazy unique games like Winged Sakura: Mindy's Arc, a strategy tower-defense game, which are also discounted by more than half off. The Hyperdimension Neptunia series is also available during the weekend sale, with some of the titles being available for 75% off the normal price.
One of Arc System Works more obscure titles, Battle Fantasia is 50% off, along with BlazBlue, which you can get for as cheap as $1.99. And speaking of Arc System Works... their very popular Guilty Gear series is also discounted, but mostly the older titles. The more recent and critically acclaimed Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- is only 30% off.
Even games like the somewhat controversial Akiba's Trip are discounted. You can get your hands on the vampire-stripping game for only $14.99.
Just about every category of anime-oriented material on Steam is discounted by a sizable amount. If you enjoy visual novels there are plenty of them available, including the highly esteemed Clannad. If you're a fan of 2D or 3D fighting games, there's a smorgasbord of them in the list as well. I've always been partial to 2D fighters, so there are quite a few games in there that I didn't even know existed that are available for purchase at discounted rates on Steam at the moment.
Sometimes these sales are great for exactly the reasons named above: there are a lot of games out there that people may not know about and themed sales can help spread the word.
You can check out all 232 items on the Steam listing page.
