If you always wanted to take Steam with you on the go and experience the community, your achievements and some of your saved screenshots, then the Steam App will be a perfect fit while you're traveling.

Valve announced today that the Steam app for mobile devices is currently available in a beta stage for iOS devices as well as Android phones. It's possible to chat with friends, read news, get the latest information on your favorite games and even check out the game pages for more info on upcoming releases.

Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve commented in the press release, saying...
"The Steam app comes from many direct requests from our customers,"... "Seeing which of your friends are online and playing a game, sending quick messages, looking at screenshots for an upcoming game, or catching a sale - these are all features customers have requested. Mobile is changing way people interact, play games and consume media, and the Steam app is part of our commitment to meet customer demands and expand the service functionality of Steam to make it richer and more accessible for everyone."

The beta is taking selected participants right now, and if you would like to test out the app, completely free of charge, you can sign up to try it out using your Steam account. Just be sure to pay a visit to the Steam store's mobile app section to find out more information on how to join the beta.
