If you’re going to have a “World of Tanks,” then you better very well offer a ridiculous number of armored vehicles for players to enjoy. It’s a good thing, then, that Wargaming is once again increasing its online battle game’s roster with the inclusion of some new tanks in update 8.5, as well as the added bonus of making some previously premium-only content available to the free-to-play crowd.
Hot on the heels of last month’s update 8.4, this latest addition to the World of Tanks universe gives players exactly what they want: More and more ways to blow each other to smithereens. The statement from Wargaming touts additions to the German and Soviet arsenal as being this update’s key features but, really, there’s quite a bit here to sink your teeth into.
For starters, yes, the Germans and Soviets are getting more armored rollers added to their tech trees. The Germans will receive a new line of medium tanks, topped by the Leopard 1. The Russians are getting a triple dose of newness, however, in the form of three light tanks including the T-60, T-70 and T-80. And just for good measure, the UK tech tree is getting by the Sexton SPG as well.
Update 8.5 will also add in the ability for players to purchase all premium consumables with silver credits. All non-paying players will also finally be able to build their own three-member platoons and companies.
Finally, along with new visuals and shading effects being added to the Siegfried Line, South Coast and Molinovka maps, a brand new map, Pearl River, is being added to the free-to-play battleground of World of Tanks. It may not be the zombie expansion some of us were hoping for, but it’s hard to complain when you’re getting all of this new stuff to play with.
