It’s time to make more stuff go boom as Wargaming finally releases update 8.5 to its online vehicle battle game, World of Tanks.

Announced earlier this month, update 8.5 offers new German and Soviet vehicles to the battlefield, as well as the chance for non-paying players to take advantage of some premium features.

A free-to-play online battle game, World of Tanks pits two teams of tank drivers against one another on a massive field of battle. Strategy is key as knowing what to bring into battle, where to be and when to attack can mean the difference between victory and defeat.

In update 8.5, the German tech tree is getting outfitted with some new medium tanks, including the Tier X Leopard 1. The Soviets, on the other hand, will have their ranks bolstered with three new light tanks. These new armored rollers will be complemented by a brand new map, Pearl River, as well as visual revamps to existing maps Siegfried Line, South Coast and Malinovka.

Finally, update 8.5 will allow players to purchase all premium consumables with in-game credits.

“Previously, premium consumables were only purchasable with gold, the in-game currency purchased with real-world money,” reads a statement from Wargaming. “In addition, all players, both paying and non-paying, will be able to create three-member platoons and companies.”

Of course it would be easier/quicker to just fork over a few bucks for those premium consumables, but you’ve gotta respect a publisher that’s willing to at least meet its non-paying members on middle ground.

World of Tanks update 8.5 goes live today in Europe and will be available in the U.S. and Southeast Asia starting tomorrow, April 25. The update will go live in south Korea on May 7. If you’re wondering what to do between now and tomorrow, maybe check out the World of Tanks mobile game? If you want to check out the game proper, however, you can do so by heading to the official website.
