Boyle Dishes Details On Slum Dog

While those of us in America are still waiting for Danny Boyle’s Sunshine to show up, the director himself is moving on. His next project returns him to the Millions side of his career, both in title and in theme, as Boyle revealed to MTV’s Kurt Loder earlier in the week.

The title of Boyle’s next picture is Slum Dog Millionaire, which tells the true-life story of an illiterate kid in India who went on a Hindi version of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” and won, taking him from rags to riches. The story looks at this from two different vantage points. First, how does he win such a tough show? As an illiterate, people think he’s cheated, so Boyle says the movie shows how he happens to know the answers to the questions they ask. Secondly, it’s a bit of a romance story because the reason the kid goes on the show is that he knows the girl he loves watches it. Appearing on the show is a way to reconnect with this girl he’s lost touch with and sort of win her over.

Boyle is already filming in Slum Dog Millionaire, shooting on location in Mumbai, India.
