Only one episode is left in the second season of Supergirl, and the good folks of Earth-38 are in a pretty bad way. Daxamite Queen Rhea and her armies have invaded the planet, and the people of National City are getting a very big and very nasty reminder that not all aliens are as amiable as Supergirl and Martian Manhunter. The very alien threat that the nefarious organization Cadmus has been warning against has come to pass. Actress Katie McGrath joined Supergirl in Season 2 to play the lovely Lena Luthor, and she revealed to CinemaBlend how fans and the characters are going to feel in the wake of the finale, saying this:
For the majority of Season 2, Cadmus has quite rightly been portrayed as an organization of people who refuse to accept aliens as deserving the right to live safely and freely among humans. Leader Lillian Luthor has been unashamed in her ambitions to rid the planet of aliens, and she and her underlings have wreaked some serious havoc on the alien population of National City as a pre-emptive strike. Obviously, punishing aliens for crimes they haven't and almost certainly wouldn't ever commit was terrible, but the arrival of the Daxamites on a mission to conquer Earth proves that maybe Cadmus had a little bit of a point about alien threats, and that's a hard pill to swallow.
The humans of Supergirl are putting up a valiant fight, and there's no denying that there are plenty of heroes on the ground. There's just no way for human technology to stand a chance against Daxamite technology. Even the D.E.O. fell when the Daxamites invaded. If Cadmus had their way, the Daxamite invasion probably would not have happened. Then again, if Cadmus had their way, a great many entirely innocent aliens would have suffered and been killed because they simply weren't human. The episode hasn't even aired yet, and it's already difficult to say that one side is absolutely wrong and one is absolutely right.
That said, I think we can probably all agree that Lillian Luthor absolutely deserves to be locked up for her actions throughout Season 2. Katie McGrath went on in our chat to say that Lena is going to be left very confused after all is said and done in Season 2, and I'd say that Lena deserves some peace of mind with her mom locked away where she can't hurt anybody. Lena will be back as a regular in Season 3, and she might have bigger things to worry about than her mad mom.
Actually, considering everything that will be packed into the finale, we might all need some peace of mind to recover from all the excitement. We have a mind-controlled Superman in the mix to battle Kara. We have a showdown between Rhea and Kara. We have General Zod (looking seriously freaky) and Cat Grant and hordes of Daxamites, by the look of the trailer. I think it's safe to say that we're in for an intense conclusion to Season 2.
You can catch Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor when the Supergirl Season 2 finale airs on Monday, May 22 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
