Spoilers ahead for Episode 12 of The Flash Season 6, called "A Girl Named Sue," and the description for Episode 13, called "Grodd Friended Me."
The Flash delved into some comic lore with "A Girl Named Sue" to finally introduce none other than Sue Dearbon, while the real Iris struggled to find a way out of the Mirror World to reunite with her husband and reveal the imposter. Neither Caitlin nor Frost (formerly known as Killer Frost) had much of a part to play, but the promo for the next episode combined with the episode description proves that Caitlin will be the one needed for Team Flash to stand a chance against a certain returning bad guy: Grodd.
Gorilla Grodd returns in the February 25 episode of The Flash, and it looks like an episode that may have viewers as confused as Barry Allen himself. Grodd's current status as a villain is technically still unknown due to all the post-"Crisis on Infinite Earths" changes that haven't been revealed just yet, but he doesn't exactly look like he has the Scarlet Speedster's best interests at heart, even if he does still have a soft spot for Caitlin. Take a look:
As longtime Flash fans undoubtedly remember, Grodd has had a soft spot for Caitlin even after he emerged as a bad guy -- or bad gorilla -- who needed to be stopped. Caitlin visited and cared for Grodd before the particle accelerator turned him into the meta-gorilla with powerful psychic powers, and he remembered her kindness. In the promo for "Grodd Friended Me," Danielle Panabaker is wearing her Caitlin rather than Frost look and addressing Grodd.
At least, it looks like she's addressing Grodd. She's certainly talking to somebody in a cage and telling them to use their signs to speak, and it looks like she might believe that person is Grodd. What's not clear is whether Grodd is in the cage or some kind of trick is making her believe Barry is Grodd. Honestly, it's hard to make any educated guesses when it comes to the post-"Crisis" timeline, especially with a character capable of psychic trickery like Grodd.
The episode description might yield a little more insight:
Feeling overwhelmed with all the changes since Crisis, Barry (Grant Gustin) conducts an experiment that goes awry and puts him directly in Gorilla Grodd's (voiced by David Sobolov) path. Expecting the worst, Barry is surprised when Grodd asks for his help. Unfortunately for both The Flash and Grodd, things get worse when another villain appears - Solovar (voiced by Keith David). Meanwhile, Iris (Candice Patton) works with Eva (guest star Efrat Dor) to escape the Mirrorverse.
Grodd won't be the only villainous gorilla returning in "Grodd Friended Me," but there's not much to go on when it comes to guessing Solovar's role in the episode. Poor Iris will still be working to get out of the Mirror World, and hopefully Eva will be a little more stable to help Iris deal with the pretty messed-up twist she's dealing with. Barry seemed to sense that the real Iris was on the other side of the mirror in "A Girl Named Sue," though; will she somehow be able to help with the Grodd situation?
Interestingly, Caitlin isn't mentioned in the episode description, so we'll have to wait and see how her connection to Grodd will impact the episode. Whatever happens on The Flash next week seems to require Caitlin more than Frost, and it probably won't involve Danielle Panabaker doing any intense stunts due to her pregnancy. Find out what happens when "Grodd Friended Me" airs on Tuesday, February 25 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW in the 2020 winter TV lineup.
