Debi Mazar as Maggie Amato in Younger.

To say that the coronavirus has had a major effect on the film and television industries would be a gross understatement. Across Hollywood, various productions are shutting down due to the growing pandemic. Not only that, but celebrities are also being diagnosed with the virus. Now, Debi Mazar, of TV Land’s Younger, has tested positive, and she’s opening up about how she thinks she contracted it.

I have just tested positive for Covid-19. I AM OK! About a month ago my entire home(husband and two teen daughters) got an odd bug- Low grade fever, headaches, sore throat, body aches, ears ringing and a dry cough. It cleared up quickly. Seasonal I thought? but it felt unusual/different… Two weeks later, March 15th,I woke up with all those same symptoms but super intense body aches ,and 102.4 fever.

The actress revealed the news in a lengthy Instagram post in which she laid out all of the events leading up to her official diagnosis. At present, she’s still not feeling completely like herself, but she’s happy to be home:

Today my lungs are heavy, but I’m tough. I can breathe, and I’m going to heal here, in my own home!

She also took a moment to encourage her followers to keep themselves safe in the midst of this situation and to do what they can to build up their immune systems:

Anyhow, stay home people! Protect yourselves & your loved ones. Build up your immune systems. Good Luck &God Bless us all!

Like other celebrities to be diagnosed, Debi Mazar is using her platform not just to share her own experiences but to encourage others to be proactive. Tom Hanks, one of the first high-profile celebrities to be diagnosed, has been using social media to keep fans up to date on his health status. This even included a little help from his sister.

Similarly, Idris Elba has been vocal about his own diagnosis and has stressed the importance of getting tested. The same can be said for Frozen II’s Rachel Matthews, who implored her followers not to be afraid but to seek out information on the condition.

It’s unfortunate to say this, but there’s a very high chance that Debi Mazar is far from the last celebrity that will be diagnosed with the disease before this pandemic comes to an end. Nevertheless, those who have come forward are making an impact. Even Kevin Bacon was inspired to get proactive after his friend Tom Hanks was diagnosed.

We can only hope that any other celebrity who gets diagnosed will follow the leads of their peers and use their platforms to inform the public. We’ll keep you up to date on any further coronavirus diagnoses and delays within the Hollywood landscape.
