Endings are almost never easy. And, as pretty much everyone knows, the longer you're in a situation the harder it tends to be to say goodbye to it, particularly if it involves someone or something that's been a big positive in your life. As we've been hearing for many months now, both cases are true for the stars of Supernatural, and with their unexpected quarantine break now over, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are sharing their emotional reactions to the last day of filming.
It used to be quite common for some people to keep their jobs for upwards of a decade, but such a thing has never been the norm for actors. So, it makes complete sense that Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have been feeling some intense feelings over the end of their 15 seasons on Supernatural as Dean and Sam Winchester. The final season was due to wrap up much earlier this year, but, of course, that had to be put on hold. Now, though, they've both braved the last day of filming on the hit drama, so let's take a look at what they had to say about it, starting with Padalecki's Instagram post:
Well, here goes... I write this as I head to my last day of #Supernatural. My last day with #SamWinchester. Obviously, my head is spinning and my emotions are stratospheric, but there’s still a bit of time left on the clock. Thank y’all SO MUCH for the incredible amount of love and support that’s been headed our way, in these final hours. It’s definitely been felt.
Awww! It's been so clear that Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, and everyone who's been a part of Supernatural for so long, are really emotional about the show ending, so while I've never heard anyone describe their emotions as "stratospheric" before, it truly makes a lot of sense, especially for Padalecki. His co-star hopped around to different gigs quite a bit more than Padalecki did before landing the part of Sam, so much of his career is even more tied to this wonderfully creepy and beloved show.
Even though Padalecki is giving a thumbs up in his photo for this post and a previous one done before he headed to his first day of filming the finale, he seems to be visibly emotional. At least he can take heart in knowing that Supernatural's creator, Eric Kripke (who left the show after Season 5) and the fans are feeling some kinda way about the show ending, as well. Of course, his on-screen brother of 15 years, Jensen Ackles, is also in an understandable mood, and said this before their last day of work:
Woke up at 6am this morning. That alarm went off with a heavy tone. Today is the final day of a 15 year journey. One that has changed my life forever. To those I have worked with on this journey and to those who have watched and supported...you will never understand my great appreciation for you. “Thank you” doesn’t cover it. There just aren’t words. I’m so grateful for these memories that I will carry with me forever. What a ride it has been. And what a run.
Man, I'm sure we've all had days where we wake up and are suddenly faced with the renewed realization that "this is it" and something big is set to go down, so I get where Ackles is coming from. As he said, a simple "thank you" wouldn't seem like enough to cover everything that happened behind the scenes or with the fans, who have formed one of the most devoted fandoms in the world. Ackles can take some comfort, though, in the fact that his "ride" can continue a bit, seeing as how his memories of Supernatural will be joined by his actual possession of Baby, the famed Impala that Sam and Dean traversed the country in.
The #SPNFamily can look forward to seeing seven episodes of Supernatural when it returns to The CW to round out its finale season, and the end looks to promise some heartache but also some serious laughs, which is just what we all expect from this beautiful, brotherly love-filled show. We'll get our last looks at Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as Sam and Dean when Supernatural comes back on October 8 at 8 p.m. EST. The finale airs on November 19 at 9 p.m. EST and will be followed by the retrospective, Supernatural: The Long Way Home, so get those tissues ready!
