Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have been together a couple for a while now. They have battled through lip syncing and also battled each other on The Voice, where Stefani has come and gone and come back again as a coach. After a little delay getting back to the screen, Stefani and the other Voice familiars are back for Season 19, and while promoting her NBC series, the Grammy winner finally got asked about those rumors that she and Blake Shelton had called off their wedding.

It all went down on The Today Show during a segment in which Gwen Stefani spoke with hosts Carson Daily and Hoda Kotb. Through the years, fans have witnessed many tender moments between Stefani and Blake Shelton, including a surprise concert appearance, but in the more recent past, rumors have circled that the couple quietly called off the in-development wedding. But did they actually do that? When Kotb asked for an update on what's happening with the pair’s wedding, Stefani replied rather cagily, saying:

Wow… that’s a really good question. Well, the good news is that we still like each other a lot, so that’s good. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens, you know what I’m saying?

If that is not one of the best non-answers ever, I will take all other comers. Gwen Stefani perfectly skirted the question and instead offered a plain-though-positive update on her relationship with Blake Shelton that didn't directly address the engagement. The Voice duo still “like each other a lot,” which technically is not a declaration of "love," per se. However, it sets their romance in a more positive light, especially as quarantine has reportedly led to some relationships getting fraught beyond repair.

Note that Gwen Stefani’s response did not actually deny that she and Blake Shelton have called off their wedding, in the same way she didn't confirm that it is still happening. Unfortunate as it may be, I do not think fans are any closer to an answer on that front if Stefani’s reply will be her go-to stance in the future. The takeaway is that the couple seems to still be together both as co-workers and as lovers. If Stefani’s kids paying tribute to Shelton’s tattoo is not enough to keep a couple together, I do not know what is.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani can obviously still be together as a couple without planning a wedding or calling one off. Both have both been married before, and both have their respective exes in their rear-view mirrors, so it's easy to imagine them wanting to take their time while deciding whether or not to fully take the wedding plunge. In Stefani’s case, she has three sons from her marriage to Gavin Rossdale. On that note, Shelton has previously opened up on the “scary” part of helping Stefani raise those sons.

Whatever the future has in store for them, it gets destined to partially play out on their TV show now that Gwen Stefani is back. I doubt they will confirm things one way or another while performing their weekly duties on The Voice. Although they have had some sweet moments on there together, so it could theoretically happen, but who knows?

Watch Stefani and Blake Shelton’s relationship on The Voice as it continues airing as one of this fall’s premieres. New episodes of Season 19 air Mondays and Tuesdays starting at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
