blue bloods danny and baez season 11 premiere

Blue Bloods fans are currently going through the longest new-episode drought ever, having survived without fresh installments since May 1. Thankfully, CBS announced that the Tom Selleck-starring crime drama will be back on the small screen with Season 11 starting on Friday, December 4. What's more, the network released some new images and a season premiere synopsis that makes it sound like Donnie Wahlberg's Danny Reagan and Marisa Ramirez's Maria Baez will be in serious trouble almost immediately.

The image seen above is apparently taken from earlier in the episode, when Danny and Baez are both out and about and doing just fine. Unfortunately, things take a turn at some point as they're on their hunt for a dangerous killer. Are you ready for this? Danny and Baez go missing during their search! Dun-dun-dunnnn! Here's a shot of the two partners in a slightly less optimistic setting.

Is it just me, or does it look like someone pushed Baez down those stairs? It appears as if one or both of her legs is in pain, and Danny is looking angrily up the stairs. I'm not sure what other takeaways are available here, at least without getting silly with it.

Another new Blue Bloods image makes Baez's situation look even more dire, as she's pressed up against a brick wall with what appears to be a blood stain behind her. As well, she's got her hand up to her chest as if she's covering some kind of a wound. To be sure, she doesn't actually look like she got shot, since there's a lack of blood on the front of her clothing, but it certainly seems like CBS wanted to make fans worried.

Thankfully, it doesn't sound like Danny and Baez are going to be missing for the long haul, as Will Estes' Jamie and his nephew, Will Hochman's Joe Hill, will be working together to track the detectives down. How wild would it be for this show to lose two main cast members right when Season 11 kicked off?

Check out the full synopsis for "Triumph Over Trauma” below, which also notes the return of The View's Whoopi Goldberg as Regina Thomas.

Amidst a shifting political climate, Frank goes head to head with City Council Speaker Regina Thomas (Whoopi Goldberg) over protests against police brutality. Also, Jamie and his nephew Joe Hill (Will Hochman) work together to locate Danny and Baez when they go missing while searching for a killer, and Eddie steps up to help an abrasive woman find her father’s body after it was misplaced during the outset of the pandemic, on the 11th season premiere of Blue Bloods.

Considering that whole situation with Eddie finding a misplaced corpse sounds a little too uncomfortable to make for great conversation. Instead, let's just check out a first look at the return of Whoopi Goldberg's city council member, whose presence will be used to address issues of police brutality, which is something that CBS pledged to devote attention to across its many crime dramas.

While fans can definitely get excited about Blue Bloods returning for Season 11, that excitement shouldn't come with the hopes that the season will remain as long as traditional CBS seasons tend to be. The network confirmed recently that COVID delays have led to shortened seasons for the dramas, meaning Blue Bloods will only run for 16 episodes through early 2021, which is the same number allotted to NCIS and certain other big dramas.

Blue Bloods will kick off Season 11 on CBS starting Friday, December 4, at 10:00 p.m. ET, so be sure to tune in to see what happens with Danny and Baez. In the meantime, head to our Fall TV 2020 premiere schedule to see what other new and returning shows are on the way.
