This past summer we learned that Kelly Clarkson had filed for divorce from her husband and manager, Brandon Blackstock after nearly seven years of marriage. Many viewed the split as a surprise, but sources allege that the divorce was “a while coming” and that “things had changed in their marriage.” The split initially appeared to be amicable, as Clarkson even showed love to Blackstock shortly after confirming the news. However, as the proceedings have progressed things appear to have become somewhat contentious. Now, her former mother-in-law, Reba McEntire, has commented on the couple’s situation.
According to a source, Reba McEntire is reportedly “heartbroken” over Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock’s divorce. The source also told Closer that McEntire is allegedly worried by how things are playing out between the two:
Reba, Kelly’s former mother-in-law, is heartbroken over her divorce. She loves Brandon and Kelly like her own, she refuses to pick sides, but she’s afraid of how contentious it’s getting.
The trade also reports that Reba McEntire has allegedly been supportive of the situation, as the source claims she saw the split “coming from a mile away.” Despite this, McEntire reportedly doesn’t want to intervene as things progress.
One aspect of the divorce that many have been heavily focused on is Clarkson and Blackstock’s custody battle over their two kids, River and Remy. Just recently, it was reported that Clarkson won primary custody of their boys.
In addition to the divorce, Kelly Clarkson is dealing with another set of legal issues, as she’s been hit with a lawsuit by Starstruck Management, which is owned by her former father-in-law, Narvel Blackstock. The lawsuit alleges that Clarkson owes the company unpaid commissions for her work on The Voice and her eponymous talk show. In response, Clarkson filed a petition in which she claimed that Brandon Blackstock and Starstruck were doing business illegally and were allegedly operating without a sufficient talent license. She also claims she was given false information under Starstruck and that the company subjected her to “unconscionable fees and compensation.”
Throughout the divorce proceedings, Kelly Clarkson has been relatively candid about the situation. Early on, she bluntly replied to fans who asserted that her television career was the cause of her divorce. On her show, she’s also opened up about the hardest part of the divorce, which she believes is making sure her children are alright during this time. Overall, Clarkson has plainly referred to this year as a “dumpster fire.”
The divorce proceedings between Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock are continuing to move forward as is the legal battle between Clarkson and the Starstruck Management label.
