The DCEU May Have Founds Its Catwoman

The DCEU is going to expand exponentially over the course of the next few years, and one of the most fascinating projects on the horizon is Gotham City Sirens. The Harley Quinn spin-off movie has evolved over the last couple of months, and the promise of a ton of new badass DC women entering the fray is too good to ignore. One vital femme fatale who's expected to join the DCEU in that film is none other than Selina Kyle a.k.a Catwoman, and now it seems that Haley Bennett has possibly hinted that she won the highly coveted role. Check out the actress' Instagram post below to see for yourself.

Although no official casting announcement has been made by Warner Bros. or DC regarding whether or not Haley Bennett will take on the role of Selina Kyle in the DCEU, the actress recently posted the above photo to her Instagram account (spotted by ScreenGeek) with no caption -- thus sparking a huge amount of speculation among fans. Haley Bennett has found herself on a notable upward trajectory in recent years, with strong performances in projects like The Magnificent Seven, The Equalizer, and The Girl On The Train, so a comic book character like Catwoman could be the next big step for her career.

I would also be remiss for not pointing out how perfect the casting could be if Haley Bennett really is going to portray Selina Kyle. In addition to simply looking like Catwoman, the actress also has proven herself more than capable of performing in highly physical roles -- most notably in the aforementioned Magnificent Seven remake. She can definitely hold her own in a fight, so seeing her go toe-to-toe with Ben Affleck's Batman on a rooftop would be nothing less than awesome.

Haley Bennett Catwoman

Of course, I have to temper my enthusiasm with the requisite degree of skepticism. If there's one reason why Haley Bennett might not necessarily be right for the role of Catwoman, I would say that it has to be her age. At 29-years-old, she's significantly younger than Ben Affleck, so I would have a hard time buying her version of Selina Kyle as a long-time love interest for the DCEU's version of The Caped Crusader. This issue by no means rules her out as a possible contender, but an older Batman just seems like a perfect opportunity to cast an older actress as Catwoman.

Once again, I need to reiterate the fact that none of this has received official confirmation just yet. Haley Bennett posted the photo of Catwoman, but she might simply be a fan of the iconic comic book character. That said, social media has become a valuable tool for actors and actresses to leak information in recent years, so it's not outside the realm of possibility that this is legit.

We will bring you more information regarding Haley Bennett's possible involvement in the DCEU as more details become available to us. Catwoman is expected to make her debut into the silver screen DC universe when Gotham City Sirens hits theaters -- although no concrete release date for that project has been announced yet.
