Jared Leto Was Asked About The Joker's Future, And His Answer Was As Weird As You'd Expect

Joker Jared LEto

Warner Bros. and DC Films introduced fans to the latest incarnation of the Joker in Suicide Squad, played by Jared Leto. Seeing as how the DCEU is a big interconnected universe and Joker is a hugely popular character, it makes sense that he's going to show up at least a few more times over the years. It's not currently clear exactly when the Joker will rear his head again, and recent comments from Leto don't exactly paint the clearest of pictures. Here's what the actor's response was when asked about the Joker's future in the DCEU.

Talking about Joker is like talking about Fight Club: unless you want to gargle your testicles, it's probably better to leave it. He's liable to jump out of the cupboard and just start having fun.

Wow, maybe he was the perfect person to play the Joker after all.

ET Canada caught up with Jared Leto, where they asked him (and maybe immediately regretted) about when viewers can next expect to see Joker show up on the big screen. Suicide Squad 2? The Batman? Leto chose to avoid the subject, comparing the topic to gargling testicles -- which is to say that there's no point at all in discussing it. This Leto-Speak translated to English means "the Joker is a random agent of chaos and he is liable to just show up anywhere he likes." That's true, but things are probably a bit more planned out in a cinematic universe as big as the DCEU. But what else can we expect from the guy who sent his Suicide Squad co-stars rats and bullets?

We can't really hope to explain the reasoning for why Jared Leto said it like that, but the next appearance of the Joker is being kept under wraps for now. As mentioned above, the most logical places for the supervillain are the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel and the Batman solo movie currently in development. It was just announced that Harley will be facing off against the Joker in a future DC film, but it's unclear if another appearance will precede it.

For now, Leto is remaining coy on the subject, but that doesn't mean that a reveal isn't right around the corner a la the upcoming Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic Con. That panel will surely be host to a cornucopia of DC news, from upcoming projects to casting announcements to a new trailer for Justice League.

While the Joker's fate is up for debate, you can next see Jared Leto in Blade Runner: 2049, which hits theaters on October 6, 2017. To learn more about all the hot movies coming out for this hot summer, make sure to hit up our 2017 upcoming movie release guide for everything hitting theaters.
