Runic Games sent out the opening cutscene for their action RPG Torchlight 2 this afternoon. The two-minute animated video bridges the gap between Torchlight and its sequel.

At the end of Torchlight, adventurers kill an ancient being called Ordrak. Sometime later, a mysterious figure steals Ordrak's essence from below the town of Torchlight. He fights off a group of warriors trying to stop him - including the Berserker from Torchlight - and then destroys the town.

The second game isn't centered around a single town. Instead, players will travel across several regions of the world in an attempt to hunt down this mysterious new foe. Four new classes will give players a fresh selection of spells and abilities to master.

Torchlight 2 will launch sometime this year. Runic Games says that they may launch it a mere month after rival action RPG Diablo 3's debut in May.
