Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Madison Square Garden wedding seemed like it was something out of a fairytale. However, it also felt like a covert operation. While it seemed like almost anyone who had come in contact with the power couple was given an invitation, information about the event was not widely or casually spread. Receiving the invite sounded pretty exhausting, honestly, as guests went through a multi-step process and received updates that seemed like possible spam texts. Now, it's got me wondering: Did celebrities have to hold their Fourth of July weekend open in the hope that this wedding would happen?
Rumors about the Tayvis wedding were swirling for months, and it was eventually public knowledge that they were holding it the day before the summer holiday. However, their wedding invites were complicated, as not all the information about it was available at once. Since the details were staggered, what did this mean for celebrities beginning to make Fourth of July plans? Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles told People that while no one really knew anything, the leaks were helping them prepare for the holiday weekend:
It all surprised me, because of course, no one knew anything. I guess people had — there were leaks here and there where people were guessing, but no one knew for sure where we were going until much closer to the time.
At this point, it's widely known that most of the wedding guests did not have every detail about the ceremony until right before it happened. Nettles confirmed that too. So, it stands to reason that many of those invited had to hold that weekend free, and operate under the assumption that they would have plans on the third of July involving the singer and football player.
Now, when the wedding did actually happen on July 3, it seemingly went off without a hitch. While we haven’t gotten any official photos from the ceremony, plenty of famous guests have been giving their thoughts on the magical day. Nettles shared how beautiful it was to be part of Swift and Kelce’s special moment, and I'd assume that witnessing something like that would make the complicated invitations worth it:
To be a part of even a small part of their story for me was super special because, obviously, these are two people who are at the absolute top of their industry, the top of their game, the top of their craft, the top of their artistry. It’s such an important time in their lives. To be able to witness that very special moment, it’s beautiful.
Even though the invites were a bit exhausting and guests may have had to keep one of the most eventful weekends of the year free under the assumption that they'd be attending this wedding, it all sounds like it was very worth it.
In the end, it seems like Swift and Kelce managed to create a fairly private yet high-profile event that was well worth all the secrecy and waiting. Personally, I know that if I were going to get an invite, I'd happily hold any weekend (including the Fourth of July) open to attend what could quite possibly be the wedding of the year. It seems like their guests were in that boat too, as they all jumped through quite a few hoops to wind up in New York City during the holiday weekend.
