As fans of the Karate Kid franchise have come to know, “Cobra Kai never dies,” and thankfully on the television front, Netflix is also going by this mantra. Just a couple of months after the former YouTube Premium series gained new momentum when it dropped its first two seasons on Netflix, Cobra Kai fans can now look forward to at least two more seasons of the show for certain, now that it has officially been renewed for Season 4. And, we also now have our first look at Season 3!

Cobra Kai had already been renewed for a third season following its jaw-dropping conclusion that left Miguel Diaz in the hospital for a fall, caused by the kick of Robby Keene, during an impassioned fight sequence at their high school. Now we have a premiere date for January 2021, as well as the confirmation that Season 4 is “officially training to join the fight,” per Netflix. Check out the first Season 3 trailer below:

The Season 3 trailer does not particularly reveal anything new to those following the show closely, but rather serves as a reminder of the stakes at play coming into the next chapter of Cobra Kai. The main conflict at stake is Miguel Diaz’s life-threatening fall, which has him in a head brace and more, in the hospital. It looks like Miguel will make it out alive after the injury, but we’ll have to wait until January 2021 to see what the fallout will be.

It also looks as if Robby Keene may be arrested for causing Miguel's injury, even though the son of Johnny Lawrence certainly didn’t mean to send Miguel off the ledge during the school fight. There’s a shot of Robby sitting down with a police officer next to him and Johnny looking out through prison bars in the trailer.

There are also brief shots of the returning cast, including Mary Mouser’s Samantha LaRusso, who looks heartbroken at the situation involving her two love interests, Robby (Tanner Bachanan) and Miguel (Xolo Maridueña). Martin Kove’s John Kreese is shown with a bloody hit to the face, Jacob Bertrand’s Hawk is in the middle of another fight, and Peyton List’s Tory looks to be walking into some new setting for the series.

And, of course, there’s the ongoing rivalry of William Zabka’s Johnny and Ralph Macchio’s Daniel, which has taken fans to a grey area regarding who is the hero and who's the villain. Robby Keene will seemingly be in the center of the rivalry this season, as Johnny gets in between his son and his star pupil, Miguel, and Daniel potentially gets in the middle of his daughter’s love triangle. We still have a lot of lingering questions for the next season of Cobra Kai, such as if Ali will come into play, but it’s great news that we’ll also be getting a Season 4 after Season 3 plays out.

Cobra Kai Season 3 will debut on Netflix on Friday, January 8, 2021. While waiting for things to get heated up again, head to our Fall 2020 TV premiere schedule to see what other new and returning shows are on the way.
