Before retiring from acting to join the Royal Family, Meghan Markle starred in the first seven seasons of legal drama Suits, which is streaming with a Peacock subscription. Ever since she and Prince Harry broke away from royalty, fans have been hoping that Markle would be making her long-awaited return to the industry. She's staying busy with her Netflix deal, but there have also been rumors that Markle could finally be making her acting comeback. Now one TV show is adding a character that sounds a lot like her.
There were recent reports that the Duchess of Sussex is making her grand acting return in the U.K. after she and Prince Harry returned to the country. According to Variety, long-running BBC soap EastEnders, where Markle was rumored to make her comeback, is going to introduce a new series regular, coincidentally named “Meghan.”
Producers describe her as “confident, gorgeous and ready to cause chaos.” The character was first mentioned on-screen back in April, and it seems like fans will finally be meeting her. She is a member of the Hawkins family and has been in development “for months.” While Meghan was not inspired by the former Suits star, it does come at a pretty convenient time. The character will work as a “senior member of the team behind a bar.”
Per the casting call, producers are looking for a female around 30 years old. She is an “Essex bombshell walking to the Love Island villa” and is “funny, fearless, and fiercely loyal.” Meghan is also “quick-witted and impossible to intimidate.” She “never backs down from a confrontation” and has spent “her whole life proving she can handle whatever is thrown at her.”
As of now, no one has been cast in the role. Whether or not they look like Markle is hard to predict, but at the very least, it sounds like the character is going to be inspired by her. When she’s eventually introduced, Meghan will be part of the Hawkins family, who fans recently met. They are Nicola Mitchell’s estranged family, and also include Gemma, her husband Ned, and son Ryder. Meghan, who is Gemma’s daughter, is “warm, charismatic, and effortlessly charming.” However, she is also “equally capable of throwing someone out of their ear if they cross a line.”
Meanwhile, Markle has been busy with business ventures aside from plotting her potential return to acting. Her and Prince Harry’s move back to the U.K. has been causing some controversy, with Harry previously expressing his hopes to reconcile with his family. And after the cancellation of her lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan has been nominated for the 2026 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lifestyle Program. So she has a lot going on these days, even if it’s not acting. And if anything, it sounds like fans may be able to look forward to a character that sounds eerily similar to her in upcoming episodes of EastEnders.
