It’s the end of the world as we know it, and Ragnarok is officially upon us. I am, of course, referring to the new free-to-play MMORPG, Ragnarok Online 2, which today finally heads into open beta.
Originally set to enter the open beta phase on Dec. 26, the sheer popularity of Gravity and Asiasoft’s newest offering caused the Ragnarok Online 2 servers to grind to an immediate halt. The beta was taken offline for a week to allow the developers to iron out all of the details and make sure the game was in proper working order and, now, the beta is ready for an actual launch.
An evolution of the popular Ragnarok Online, this latest iteration of the free online game makes some massive advancements over the previous installment, the most noticeable of which is bringing the previously 2D experience into full 3D. A whole new vibrant world awaits players, overflowing with the expected questing, looting, crafting and more.
“First of all, we would like to apologize that we had to delay the start of the open beta test, which was necessary in order to achieve our main objective of providing the most stable gaming experience to our users,” said Asiasoft Chairman Sherman Tan. “We have been working closely with Gravity Co. to resolve bugs and issues reported by players during closed beta test and have subsequently run many stress tests during the final days of December to ensure the stability of the new game servers we have invested in the game. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us during that period and we now welcome gamers to rejoin us in the magical world of Ragnarok Online 2.”
As a means of saying “thanks,” the developers are offering players a couple of nice perks. Anyone who has a level 10 character in the game by Jan. 6 will receive 5,000 free RO2Cash, the in-game currency to spend on whatever you choose. Also, each player who participated in the closed beta test or any of the stress test sessions will receive a special “Thank You Pack,” including five Explorer’s Purple potions, five remote storage scrolls, a Spinel and two butterfly wings.
