Batman V Superman Is About To Drop A Bunch Of Footage

Next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice remains the most surreal manifestation of comic book fanboy fantasies. With the bulk of San Diego Comic-Con’s raucous revelations set to occur this coming weekend, reports are circulating that Warner Bros. has plans on Saturday to unveil a new trailer chock-full of a healthy amount of gloomy hero-on-hero violence.

It's hardly risky to predict that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a heavily hyped mega-movie, would come into the ultimate pop culture event of the year with new footage. However, there seems to be substantive backing to the claim. The website for The Alberta Film Ratings has lately been a reliable indicator of arriving trailers. The site regularly list the dates they receive new trailers, typically unveiling them the next day. For example, the Goosebumps trailer was listed as received on July 7, with the clip hitting the next day on July 8. Should the pattern hold, then the second trailer for Dawn of Justice, which they list as having been received on July 10 (today), will likely be unleashed tomorrow on the back of the Warner Bros. panel at Comic-Con.

While the April unveiling of the film’s debut teaser trailer managed to convey its gloomy atmosphere and powerfully political tone, it was short on specifics. With this new clip widely expected to be a full-length trailer, there will certainly be expectations that we’ll be further edified on the motivations behind this colossal conflict. More importantly, with the teaser giving us a glimpse of a stare-down between an armored Ben Affleck Batman and an irked Henry Cavill Superman, it would be satisfying to see a bit of the ensuing scuffle. Comic book fans have managed to get panelled glimpses of such a showdown in the pages of DC Comics, notably in Frank Miller’s seminal work, The Dark Knight Returns, which served as heavy inspiration for the film. However, expectations are stratospheric for this live-action rendition of the iconic comic book throw down.

In addition to possible glimpses of the world-wrecking action, there is another angle that has fans frothing in anticipation. With Dawn of Justice serving as a platform for the big-screen debuts of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller’s The Flash, and Jason Momoa’s badass rendition of Aquaman, there would probably be some seriously disappointed faces if the new clip fails to unveil those future solo film stars. On a sidenote, with Jena Malone’s role rumored to be the live-action manifestation of TDKR’s Carrie Kelley, the female version of Batman’s sidekick, Robin, some footage confirming that would be an equally ass-kicking aperitif.

Hopefully, we’re not getting ahead of ourselves when it comes to this new trailer, but the signs do seem to be solid that we’ll know a lot more about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice after the Warner Bros. panel on Saturday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m. PST. The Zack Snyder-directed donnybrook hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
