There are some biographical casting choices out there that are simply meant to be. Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela in Invictus. Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland. Michael Sheen as Tony Blair in everything. Now there is another one to chock up to the list: Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher in the upcoming Phyllida Lloyd film Thatcher.

THR is reporting that Streep has accepted the role of the first female British Prime Minister and will act alongside Jim Broadbent who will play her husband, Dennis. Set in 1982, the film will follow Thatcher as she tries to protect her career in the 17 days prior to the start of the Falklands War.

The Oscar winning actress has proven that she can master the English accent (Read: The French Lieutenants' Woman) so this is a home-run in every conceivable way. The character will certainly be a challenge as Thatcher remains one of the most controversial figures in contemporary British politics. It almost goes without saying at this point, but you can probably already book her for the Oscar nomination.
