The 2011 Emmy Award nominations were announced today by Melissa McCarthy, who found herself nominated for her work on Mike & Molly, and Joshua Jackson. Here's a short list to start things off, which we'll be updating throughout the day as the full list of nominees is announced (they're available in less convenient slideshow form at Emmys.com too) . Surprises included a first-time nomination for Parks & Recreation as Best Comedy series, a nod to Louis C.K. as Best Actor in a Comedy for his series Louie, and a spot for Martha Plimpton in Best Actress in a Comedy in Raising Hope, one of the only freshman shows from the recent season to make it at all. Friday Night Lights, after years of being ignored outright by the awards, finally snagged recognition as Best Drama Series. The Big Bang Theory, which has been a hit for years, is also enjoying its first-ever nomination as Best Comedy Series. And though the critically acclaimed FX series Justified didn't score a nomination itself, many of its actors did, including Timothy Olyphant, Margo Martindale, Walton Goggins, and even Jeremy Davies as a Guest Actor.

As for snubs, there were plenty-- Community once again was completely blanked, as was Cougar Town, two shows widely considered the best comedies airing. The Walking Dead, the much-loved AMC zombie series, received zero nominations. And if you're a true blue David Simon believer hoping that Treme would get attention where The Wire did not, well, just go back to bed and call it a day.

Check out the list below and keep coming back as we update it. The Emmys will be handed out and broadcast live on Sunday, September 18.
