Angry Birds, the ever-popular fowl flinging game for just about every gaming and mobile device known to man, is set to take the next logical step forward into a more social market with Angry Birds friends.
One of the most successful games franchises of all time, Angry Birds has captured the heart of millions with its adorable mascots, simple controls and plucky sense of humor. Along with the core game and the Seasons expansion, versions of Angry Birds have crossed over to include the likes of the animated film Rio and even the Star Wars universe. What I’m saying is, Angry Birds is kind of a big deal.
And just when you would think they’re running out of ideas for keeping the game new and fresh, the folks over at Rovio go and pull off a brilliant maneuver, introducing all sorts of social aspects into their winning formula. I’m not sure if it’s even possible, but these are the types of enhancements that could very well push Angry Birds’ popularity one giant leap further.
Announced through the Rovio website, Angry Birds Friends will allow players to challenge their buddies in weekly tournaments, trade gifts, compare scores and more.
“Angry Birds Friends spruces up the classic Angry Birds experience with fun new social features that integrate with Facebook,” reads the announcement. “For the first time ever, the fans of Angry Birds can use their mobile to challenge their Facebook friends in weekly tournaments for the coveted bronze, silver and gold grown on levels. Gather daily rewards, send and receive gifts of power-ups with your friends and brag about your accomplishements.”
Angry Birds Friends is expected to hit mobile and tablets “soon.”
