I Wasn’t Expecting Josh Gad To Make A ‘Throuple’ Comment While Hyping A Big Frozen 3 Moment
That wasn't on my bingo card.
Ever since the Frozen cast began dishing on the upcoming third movie, I’ve been enjoying whatever updates I can get. We’ve already been given the first Frozen 3 footage during Disney’s big D23 event, and I’m definitely feeling the excitement. There are new songs (loving the duet between Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel), but I wasn’t expecting Olaf actor Josh Gad to make a “throuple” comment while hyping up a big Frozen 3 moment. And now it’s all I can think about.
Gad, Bell, and Menzel were truly living it up at D23 where they gave us little insights and winks to what we can expect. When the cast stopped by to share with Fandango correspondent Zuri Hall, they offered some interesting Frozen 3 teases. I thought the biggest thing I would be thinking about is Bell referring to Kristoff as Elsa’s brother-in-law, but Gad’s comments about Olaf is planning the wedding definitely took the cake. As he put it:
Olaf thinks he's getting married alongside Kristoff and Anna. I think he very much thinks that it's a throuple and is really committed to seeing it through. But Olaf also finds a little love along the way in this one, too, which I think is very exciting
Somehow, I shouldn’t be surprised to hear that Olaf gets things a little mixed up. After all, this is the same snowman who wanted to experience summer. But the way Gad talks, our lovable little sidekick is going to learn more about love and even has his own “little long song.” This was teased during D23 when the actor came on stage and serenaded someone named Samantha. Does this mean we’re getting a snow(wo)man? Or was it a reference to Olaf's funny Samanatha scene from Frozen 2?
No one seems more excited than the cast themselves. They’ve done nothing but sing directors Jennifer Lee and Trent Correy’s praises, but it’s the way they’re promoting the movie that has me most excited. Bell has already proven she has no chill when it comes to promoting the threequel. Just check out her surprising duet with The Savannah Bananas player Derek Klena. But both she and Gad have given little teases into their first days working on Frozen 3. However, nothing has me more excited than hearing how Olaf will be evolving in the upcoming movie:
Olaf, I think, as Kristen said, each one of our characters is evolving in this one. We're all and it's the beauty of the Frozen franchise is it's really about an evolution of these characters, their interdynamics, but also their own sort of like search of themselves and where they are in life. And, for Olaf, he's discovering what love is, complications and all. And so he meets a little someone along the way perhaps.
I just hope he doesn’t change too much. Now while Olaf’s relationship status has piqued my interests the most, we did get some other teases from the cast. The little teaser shown at D23 did give a glimpse at Anna and Kristoff's big day so I’m hopeful we’ll actually see it. The closest we’ve come to this was when the characters stopped by ABC’s Once Upon a Time. Even then all we saw was the dress. And while that show didn't feature actors who the OG cast chose to play the characters in a live-action remake, that didn't stop fans from being happy to see the sisters on the small screen.
But the confidence the cast has in this third movie has me positive I’m going to love it. While I may be disappointed that we won’t be seeing it as one of 2026’s upcoming movies, I’m anxiously anticipating what new characters will show up. We won’t see Frozen 3 until November 24, 2027, but the cast did tease that following this movie will be a fourth. Though the cast said they’re focusing on recording Frozen 3 first and had no other details to share.
Still, if Frozen 3 turns out as epic as they’re making it out to be, I’ll happily take a fourth.
