Community’s buzzy introduction to Netflix has generated a lot of talks lately, and even the Russo Brothers are weighing in. Every season of the fan-favorite is currently available to stream on the beloved service, and it is reinvigorating the conversation around something long-hoped for – a movie. What do the Russo Brothers think about making one?

If you are one of the fans that feel Community deserves to have its movie dreams come true, you will want to know the answer. The Russo Brothers, who directed episodes of the series, have thoughts on a movie, and their willingness to do one. Asked about the potential of a Community movie amid the newly ignited Netflix momentum, Joe Russo told Collider:

We’d certainly be willing to do it. We love our Community family. That cast, we’re all still very close to all of them. It’d certainly be schedule-depending for us. But I believe there will be a Community movie, especially now that it’s doing so well on streaming. Someone like Netflix could step up and make that movie.

It sounds like Alison Brie is not the only one who thinks Netflix should be the one to make a Community movie. The Russo Brothers’ Joe Russo believes it should too. There is something crucial to note that bolsters the Avengers: Endgame helmer’s case, and it has to do with the show’s newfound adjacency to Netflix.

Back when Alison Brie made her comments, the one-time NBC series was not streaming on Netflix like it is now. So, there is undoubtedly added impetus for the streaming giant to make a Community movie. Joel Russo’s thoughts come as there have already been signs of a renewed interest in making the movie come to fruition.

Joel McHale recently gave a particularly positive update on the chances of Community getting its movie. He did not mention any potential directors, but the Russo Brothers would be a good fit, seeing as how the two are familiar with the show. That said, one of the names previously bandied about for the job was Fast & Furious 6’s, Justin Lin.

Dan Harmon mentioned a Justin Lin-directed film back in 2017. Is he still interested in 2020? If not, one half of the Russo Brothers certainly sounds interested in stepping behind the camera to helm the much-desired movie. Whoever directs, fans have some ideas as to what needs to happen in such a film.

With Community finding a new audience on Netflix, there is a fresh wave of interest for a movie. If the Russo Brothers end up directing, they will have the task of getting together the cast, whose careers have hit record heights since the series ended. These are the kind of issues that fans would love to have worked out, though.

For now, Community fans are left to wonder if a movie will happen, but there is arguably more reason to be hopeful than ever before. Netflix popularity has a way of getting things done, and Community has that going for it.

You can stream Community in its entirety on Netflix as one of 2020’s new offerings. While you wait to find out if a Community movie happens and the Russo Brothers direct it, you can check out this spring’s premieres.
