Fans of Dead to Me got some good news and some bad news recently with the announcement that the show was renewed for a third and final season. While that means that the misadventures of Christina Applegate's Jen and Linda Cardellini's Judy will wrap after only one more batch of episodes, at least viewers are guaranteed another season of the show, created by Liz Feldman, and the early confirmation of a final season means that it won't have to end on a cliffhanger. Now, Applegate shared her reaction to the news of the show ending.

Christina Applegate, who serves as an executive producer as well as star, took to Twitter to share her response, saying this of costar Linda Cardellini and creator Liz Feldman:

I will miss these ladies. But we felt this was the best way to tie up the story of these women. Thank you to all the fans. We will be getting back to work when it is safe to do so. Much love

Based on Christina Applegate's reaction to the announcement, it seems safe to say that the news that Dead to Me will end after Season 3 isn't due to Netflix giving the axe to the dark comedy, even though Netflix has been quick to cancel other shows, even another dark comedy with an all-star cast. (Notably, Santa Clarita Diet starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant also ended after three seasons on Netflix.) Dead to Me is seemingly ending due to the decisions of the stars and creator.

That said, Christina Applegate's reaction also shouldn't get fans too excited too soon. Production across showbiz is still largely halted, so it may be a while before it's safe for production on Dead to Me to pick up again for the third and final season. While writing and planning can be done remotely, that's not the case for filming. Still, confirmation of the third season provides something for fans to look forward to!

Under normal circumstances, I would suggest May 2021 as a likely premiere window for Dead to Me Season 3. The first season released on May 3, 2019, and the second released on May 8, 2020. The production halts may make it impossible for Dead to Me to wrap on the same timeline to be ready to premiere in May 2021. The first two seasons each ran for ten episodes, so a ten-episode order for Season 3 is likely.

The renewal announcement on Twitter did say that Season 3 is "coming soon," but that may not mean much more than next year. Take a look:
