Last week, Marvel fans were treated to the news that WandaVision would still be hitting its planned 2020 release date, and that excitement only increased with the release of the first trailer. Unfortunately, news of WandaVision becoming the first in Marvel’s line of Disney+ shows pretty much implied a delay for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which was originally set to kick things off. Now, Disney+ has gone ahead and confirmed that this will indeed be the case.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Disney+ page has now states that the series will land on the streaming service in 2021, though there’s no indication as to when it will be released next year. The show was originally set to make its debut in August as one of the first installments in Marvel Studios’ Phase Four slate.
Set sometime after the events of Avengers: Endgame, The Falcon and the Winter Solider is set to continue the story of Sam Wilson/The Falcon and Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier as they embark on a global adventure. In addition to the returning Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, the series will also see Emily VanCamp reprise her role as Sharon Carter and Daniel Bruhl return to the villainous role of Baron Helmut Zemo. The show will also introduce the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of John Walker, who will be played by Wyatt Russell.
Production on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier originally kicked off near the end of 2019 in Atlanta. By January, filming was set to move to Puerto Rico for two weeks before the island experienced two major earthquakes and production was delayed. In March, filming began in Prague, but work was halted a few days into the shoot due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Back in July, the Czech Republic cleared the Marvel series to return to Prague, and the show is reportedly planning to return there later in the year. Right now, Falcon and Winter Soldier is currently back to shooting in Atlanta, as revealed by a cool behind-the-scenes image shared by Sebastian Stan. Recent set photos have also revealed that a certain Winter Soldier villain will be returning to join in on the action.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s delayed release date is sure to come as a disappointment to many fans. Still, it’s good to see that the cast and crew are currently hard at work trying to get things done and that production (as far as we know) has been moving along safely.
The wait for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier won’t be easy but, luckily, we can still look forward to WandaVision at some point before the end of 2020.
So how eager are you to finally see The Falcon and the Winter Solider? What are you hoping to see when it arrives? Let us know in the comments!
