New WandaVision TV Spot Reveals Episode Count, New Theme Song And More

Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany

It has been far too long since Marvel fans (myself included) have had new content to enjoy. The studio ended up taking all of 2020 off, delaying such feature films as Black Widow and postponing the premieres of television shows such as WandaVision. Well, Marvel’s favorite couple finally are ready to make their debut on Disney+ on January 15, and have just released a new TV spot that has new footage, a new theme song (from a famous Disney pairing), and some key information on the season. Press play on the above TV spot to take in the latest.

Because the original television series WandaVision pays tribute to classic sitcom formats from past generations, the show’s creative team knew that it needed a unique theme song to set the tone for the program’s goals. Frozen songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez wrote the theme that can be heard in the above TV spot, as well as musical tracks for several of the season’s episodes. Speaking on behalf of the couple’s musical contributions, Anderson-Lopez explained:

I grew up in the ’80s watching shows from every decade on the networks all day long. Episodes from I Love Lucy, Brady Bunch and Family Ties shaped who I am and how I move through the world. So this project was a dream come true.

“Dream” is an interesting turn of phrase. More on that in a second. The release that accompanied this new WandaVision TV Spot confirmed that the original TV series will last for nine episodes, with the first one dropping on Friday, January 15. As you can see in the footage, it transitions from black-and-white to color, often as it shifts decades and genres. But it also shifts aspect ratios, which I find fascinating. There are moments when we’re clearly outside of the “television” reality and back in what I’ll call the “real” world. There’s even a moment when Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) appears to react with confusion when she hears a voice calling out to her, saying:

Wanda? Wanda, can you read me?

What do we think it going on here? I have theories, but if you don’t want to hear them, I’ll warn you that the following might be spoilery. I’ll even put the rest of the story after this image.

So, I believe that the TV programs that Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) are occupying exist only in Wanda’s mind… or in an alternate reality that she has created through her powers. Scarlet Witch easily is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I think that the grief caused by Vision’s death in Avengers: Infinity War will send Wanda over the edge. This new reality could also exist in the multiverse, a concept we know that WandaVision is going to explore.

If this is the case, then I believe there are people on the outside who are trying to ease Wanda out of her catatonic state, and that is the voice that we hear, and the helicopter that we see. But we shall soon see. WandaVision hits Disney+ on January 15. Will you be watching?
