Double Dragon Trilogy Kicking It On iOS, Android
In an age when the streets are ruled by gangs and evil crimelords look to bring the city to its knees, the world can count on a pair of brothers with the guts and the wicked karate skills necessary to stand up for what’s right. And now that DotEmu has brought all three of the Double Dragon games to mobile platforms, fans the world over can join said brothers on their quest for justice.
For those of us who grew up in the 80’s and early 90’s, the Double Dragon series was one of the best reasons to pick up a controller, offering cooperative slugfests and wonderfully campy stories you could play over and over again. A classic beat-em-up series, the DD trilogy helped paved the way for an entire genre, one that’s seen a huge resurgence over the past several years as developers big and small fall in love with pummeling enemies to a pulp all over again.
So whether you’re a fan of the classic games or in need of a classic gaming history lesson, the Double Dragon Trilogy might be just what the doctor ordered. It’s available now for iOS and Android and, at just $3.99, you’re getting three beloved brawlers for about a buck a pop.
Packing all three games into a single collection, the Double Dragon Trilogy includes the original Double Dragon, as well as Double Dragon 2: The Revenge and Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone which, I assure you, isn’t about discovering a fast and reliable way to learn a foreign language. Unless that foreign language is “ass-kickery,” in which case, I stand corrected.
Developer and publisher DotEmu promises a “faithful port of all three original arcade games,” along with a host of new features for fans new and old to enjoy. You’ll be able to dive into the classic Arcade Mode in order to chase down new high scores or enjoy Story Mode, which unlocks new stages and achievements as you move along.
As is becoming commonplace with mobile games these days, you’ll also have fully customizable controls, as well as three difficulty levels to enjoy including mobile, which makes it a bit more balanced for mobile play, classic and expert. There’s even an option to listen to the games’ original soundtracks or enjoy a new re-mastered mix.
For those who prefer a bit more control over their mobile games, Double Dragon Trilogy offers up gamepad support and, most importantly, co-op play stays intact through Bluetooth.
To jump into the action and relive a trio of classics, grab Double Dragon Trilogy off of iTunes or Google Play starting today for just three bucks.
