The time has come to put on your favorite Dragon Force album, boot up your computer and take to the ash-filled skies as Sony Online Entertainment announced the May 29 launch of the Dragon’s Prophet open beta.

Currently roaring through its closed beta phase, Dragon’s Prophet is nearly ready to be tested by the masses with the open beta just days away, finally arriving on May 30.

A free-to-play MMORPG, Dragon’s Prophet gives players the chance to jump into yet another massive fantasy world, only this one is inhabited by hundreds of unique dragons you can capture, train, ride and fight. Honestly, that fact alone is enough to pique my interests. I’m good to go in the questing and looting department, as that’s a staple of pretty much every MMO on the planet. Throw dragons into the mix, though, and I’m ready to download yet another free-to-play game.

With the open beta only days away, SOE has also officially lifted the non-disclosure agreement for the game. What that means for early closed beta testers is that they can now upload videos, articles, blogs and everything between about their experiences with the game. Those “founders” will also get the first crack at the open beta phase of the game, getting to jump in a day earlier than the unwashed masses on May 29.

As I said, Dragon’s Prophet sports just about all of the usual MMO systems and offerings you would expect, only this particular game also lets players go toe-to-toe with giant winged monsters, then ride them around like a boss.

Dragon’s Prophet features an action-based combat system that gives players visceral battle action gameplay,” reads a statement from SOE. “Set in a realm where dragons roam the land, sea and air, the game lets players band together to battle a variety of dragons as they work to restore order to the land from the evil Black Dragon that has escaped his eternal prison, and is more dangerous than ever.”

To get in on the action, head on over to the official website, bone up on the game, and get ready to join the open beta come May 30. Dragon’s Prophet is expected to release sometime later this year for PC.
