While Manny, Diego and Sid entertain movie-goers with this summer’s release of Ice Age: Continental Drift, gamers can get in on the prehistoric action with the release of free-to-play, browser-based franchise tie-in, Ice Age Online.
Bigpoint and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products have announced the launch of an open beta for the game and everyone is invited to jump in and take part.
In Ice Age Online, players take on the role of an adorable sloth who has discovered the perfect home for their herd. As is usually the case in the Ice Age films, however, tragedy strikes and you are soon separated from your family thanks to a volcanic eruption.
With a world map to guide the way and 2D platforming worlds to explore, players must find their lost family members and, along the way, use resources to build camps for their other animal friends.
“We’re excited to have fans of Ice Age jump into the open beta,” said Bigpoint Producer Julia Salomon. “Our team is dedicated to delivering an authentic online gaming experience that is true to the cinematic adventures…and we’re confident that fans will be entertained by Ice Age Online.”
Players will also have access to a friends list while playing, as well as online leaderboards and the ability to visit their friend’s camps and leave behind gifts. Ice Age Online also sports Achievements, a bonus levels just waiting to be unlocked.
