Superstore Cast Reacts To The Show’s Cancellation After Season 6

superstore season 6 nbc

Fans of the NBC comedy Superstore learned recently that, after six seasons of wacky storylines, weird sight gags, quirky characters, and intriguing love stories, the series would be heading to that big-box store in the sky. And, while everyone who found the oddball gem that is Superstore will be sad to see it go once the current season wraps, you can imagine that the cast also has a lot of feelings about leaving it behind.

Superstore getting as far as Season 6 was pretty much never a sure thing. The workplace comedy about employees at one St. Louis branch of a Walmart-type retail chain was never the most highly watched or buzzed about show, but those who found it noticed its charms quickly and stuck by its side, helping to give the show the boost it needed. Much of the cast has taken to social media to react to the cancellation, and star Colton Dunn (Garrett), had plenty to say on Twitter about how the fans carried the show through:

Dunn speaks the truth. We might be sad over Superstore ending, but we got a whole six seasons, you guys. What if the show had been cancelled ages ago, say, before Amy and Jonah were finally inspired to kiss during the tornado? Or before Sandra and Jerry got married? That would have been even worse, right?

Superstore has given fans a lot, and, according to Lauren Ash (Dina), the same can probably be said for most of the cast and crew:

Nico Santos, who plays Mateo, took the sentiments of his co-star a few steps further on his Twitter feed, and spoke about how grateful he is to the show for embracing, and openly discussing, many aspects of his real life, saying, in part:

Superstore changed my life in the most profound way...We are truly a family. I'm incredibly proud of the work we've done, the stories we've told. All the joy and laughter (and some tears) that we've brought you. To be part of a show that didn't squelch, but rather celebrated my identity as a Filipino, LGBTQ immigrant is something that will stay with me forever...THANK YOU for all the love and support you've given us. I hope you enjoy the rest of the season. Have a heavenly day...

Man, ending that tweet with the way the Cloud 9 employees on Superstore are supposed to say goodbye to customers really brings his already sweet comments home. All of the characters on the show, frequently nutty though they are, have been through some serious ups and downs, and Nico Santos' Mateo is no different. He found out he'd been in the country illegally since he was a small child only a few seasons ago, and ended up being discovered and locked up by ICE at the end of Season 4.

Fans have been dealing with massive heartbreak over the show's biggest couple, Amy and Jonah, breaking up recently, with star America Ferrera deciding to call it quits and her character taking a fancy corporate job in California. But, the door was left semi-open for the romance, with it being very clear that the two still love each other, and, now that Superstore is ending with Season 6, I wouldn't put it past the show to give us a big reunion in the finale.

We can see how the final season of Superstore plays out, when it continues on NBC, Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST. For more on what to watch, check out our guide to fall TV and see what's coming in the new year!
