Shortly upon its premiere, Big Little Lies joined the ranks of HBO shows that got the world talking. The first season was a faithful book to screen adaptation, which fans watched on the network (and streamed with a HBO Max subscription). Season 1 won a 8 Emmy nominations, and the show promptly returned for a second season (with Meryl Streep in tow). Fans have been holding out hope for a third season, and actress Kathryn Newton recently addressed that possibility.
Big Little Lies Season 3 is taking a long time, but the cast seems interested in reprising their roles for another batch of episodes... eventually. Newton spoke to People recently about her new horror movie The Devil’s Mouth, when the conversation eventually turned to BLL. When asked if a third season is still possible, the Ready Or Not 2 actress responded with:
I’m really, really, really, really hopeful. I think good things. I think good things about Big Little Lies season 3.
This is definitely an encouraging message for fans who have been hoping to see what happened to the women of Monterey (and their families) after Big Little Lies' Season 2 finale. There are definitely more questions and narrative threads to pull from, but only time will tell if we actually get a third season of the acclaimed series. Although the cast's ongoing commitment to their roles is going to help buoy fan excitement.
This is just the latest example of BLL star helping to keep hope alive for another season. Last September Shailene Woodley posted a photo with her co-stars, with the caption claiming:
we ARE so back … big little lies 3, you ready??? cause … it’s happening …
While this seemed like a confirmation of Season 3, that unfortunately wasn't the case. There's been no indication that HBO has green lit Big Little Lies for another batch of episodes, but it sounds like the show's cast are down to dive back into more drama. Having Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon as both producers and stars has power, but we'll have to see if/when another season is written and (hopefully) produced.
Prior to joining the MCU in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Kathryn Newton played Abigail on Big Little Lies, the daughter of Reese Witherspoon's Madeline Mackenzie. She was a recurring character in Season 1 and became a series regular in Season 2, appearing in all 14 episodes of the HBO series... so far. It's unclear what role she might have if a third season ends up green lit, but with Newton's starpower continuing to grow thanks to roles in projects like Ready Or Not 2, smart money says she'll be back if/when more episodes are shot.
Both seasons of Big Little Lies are streaming on HBO Max. Kathryn Newton's new movie The Devil's Mouth is also out now with an Amazon Prime subscription as part of the 2026 movie release list.
