Possibly the only activity gamers enjoy more than playing video games is being a dick on an internet forum. Don't troll too hard, though, or EA might not let you play its games anymore.

The new policy was revealed by an interesting post on the EA support forums by one of the community moderators about the imminent forum overhaul. "Your forum account will be directly tied to your Master EA Account, so if we ban you on the forums, you would be banned from the game as well since the login process is the same. And you'd actually be banned from your other EA games as well since it's all tied to your account. So if you have SPORE and Red Alert 3 and you get yourself banned on our forums or in-game, well, your SPORE account would be banned too."

This, ironically, is probably going to lead to a lot of cursing on forums, specifically EA's. "I paid for this game! How dare you prohibit me from playing it!" and so on. This feels more like an ultimate threat to hold over gamer's heads rather than something they'd dole out on a regular basis. The bans would in all likelihood be temporary (a day, an hour, whatever) too. It's not like the community moderators become totalitarian dictators under this system - if you called EA and bitched enough they'd likely restore you anyway. I understand EA's perspective on this - I mean if you're a complete shit on the forums, odds are you're acting like that in the game too (and vice versa).

The move isn't entirely without precedent, either. The World of Warcraft forum requires players to log in with their player account and advertising gold buying services, being racist, or whatever can be punished with an in-game ban. We'll see if this ends up being EA's official policy and how often they invoke it. Until we know for certain, play nice.
